Seven years after his wife is murdered during a bank robbery, former homicide detective Jake Thompson has retreated into drinking and isolation. Then he meets Daniela Santiago, a dancer who initially sees him as another man she can keep emotionally invested and financially useful. Instead, she falls for him, and Jake begins imagining a future he thought died with his wife.

But Daniela is hiding a dangerous history. Years earlier, trafficker Fernando Garcia sexually exploited her, using her to entertain clients and help close criminal deals. When Garcia forces his way into the home Jake and Daniela share and threatens her again, Jake prepares to kill him, believing it is the only way to keep Daniela safe. But Daniela refuses to let Jake lose his soul trying to save her. Instead, she volunteers to help law enforcement bring Garcia down, putting herself at the center of the operation against him. During the sting, Daniela will be wired and seated across from the man who once controlled her. If she can’t get Garcia to incriminate himself, he walks. If he discovers she has betrayed him, she dies.
